A session on information and communication technologies was held at the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan as part of the 16th Cooperation Forum “Central Asia - Republic of Korea” that started today in Ashgabat.
The meeting was held in a hybrid format on the topic - Electronic government and electronic services: Prospects for using ICT to improve the provision of public services and interaction with citizens. Representatives of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in it.
The delegates spoke about the measures being taken in the countries they represent to develop information and communication technologies. They also discussed establishing a close partnership with the Republic of Korea, which is one of the leading countries in the world in developing information infrastructure. Korea has made tremendous strides in its IT industry, establishing itself as a global player in the international market.
Representatives of the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency in their speeches introduced the activities that are being carried out as part of the digitalization of all sectors of the country’s economy, including those provided for by the “Concept for the development of the digital economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025”, as well as the decision “On the creation and implementation of an electronic document flow and development of Internet websites in Turkmenistan.” It should be noted that the Agency was determined to be the authorized body for the development of the digital economy in Turkmenistan.
Comprehensive digitalization is part of the strategic Concept for the development of the digital economy in Turkmenistan until 2025. Turkmenistan is following the path of innovative development - information technologies are used in production, institutions and in everyday life.
Thanks to the efforts of specialists from the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency, various communication opportunities have been created for Turkmen citizens to use Internet services through fixed 2G, 3G, 4G networks, and access to the public Wi-Fi network has been provided.
The telecommunications company Turkmentelecom is actively working to increase the capacity of Internet traffic in the country. For these purposes, within the framework of a joint project with the Islamic Development Bank, the Internet infrastructure was modernized, new routing and switching equipment was installed, as well as modern server equipment in the central server room of Turkmentelecom and at telephone exchanges in the city of Ashgabat.
Particular emphasis was placed on the smart city of Arkadag. This is an “innovation city”, the IT infrastructure of which consists of a large number of subsystems, connected computers, controllers, sensors and other modern devices.
