On October 24, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in the "BRICS Plus/Outreach" format in Kazan.

Warmly greeting each other, the head of Turkmenistan and the leader of the largest international organization expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss the current state and prospects for further development of the established constructive dialogue, built with consideration of common goals and tasks of modern times.

Taking the opportunity, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov wholeheartedly congratulated António Guterres on the United Nations Day celebrated today, expressing confidence that the results of the current meeting would give a new impetus to the development of the traditional partnership.

Thanking for the congratulations and kind words, the UN Secretary-General expressed deep gratitude for the hospitable and cordial reception during his visit to Ashgabat in July this year and extended his best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero-Arkadag, under whose leadership the peaceful foreign policy course of sovereign Turkmenistan, consistently committed to the principles of openness, peacefulness, and active international cooperation, was developed.

As noted, following the principles of positive neutrality, recognized by the world community and forever enshrined in the Constitution of the country, Turkmenistan constantly expands relations with countries around the world and authoritative international organizations.

It was mentioned that it was at the initiative of our country that the UN General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust. As is known, the upcoming year will be marked by a number of significant events, including the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN.

During the meeting, which took place in a businesslike and constructive manner, the interlocutors exchanged views on the possibilities of expanding cooperation in a number of priority areas.

It was noted that, being a neutral state, twice recognized by the Community of Nations, Turkmenistan has been pursuing an active policy on the international stage for many years, maintaining effective relations with the UN and its specialized agencies in various fields.

Turkmenistan also acts as a reliable and long-term partner of the UN in Central Asia – one of the strategic regions of the world, experiencing dynamic development today.

Noting the importance of addressing common tasks of national and global development, the head of state once again confirmed the intention of the Turkmen side to comprehensively expand and deepen the established constructive dialogue on a long-term, mutually respectful basis.

Thanking for the proactive approach to solving current problems and building multifaceted cooperation with UN specialized agencies, the head of the authoritative international structure emphasized that Turkmenistan has been and remains an important partner of the Organization in ensuring universal peace, security, and sustainable development.

The UN Secretary-General highly appreciated the initiatives of our country to affirm the principles of peace and trust in international relations and once again emphasized the importance of new proposals voiced by the head of Turkmenistan at the 16th BRICS Summit in the "BRICS Plus/Outreach" format.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary-General António Guterres exchanged mutual wishes of good health, well-being, and great success in their work, expressing confidence that the established fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN will steadily develop, taking into account mutual interest in achieving the global Goals of the third millennium.
