Turkmenistan and the IRU discussed the development of transport infrastructure

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto. During the meeting, the parties noted the positive experience of cooperation and outlined further steps to improve interconnectedness between the countries through the development of multimodal transit and transport corridors and international logistics hubs, including digitalization of the transport industry. This is stated in the message of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The parties discussed cooperation on the UN platform and the activities of the Friends of Sustainable Transport Group, established on the initiative of Turkmenistan. Umberto de Pretto stressed Turkmenistan's commitment to improving transport infrastructure at the regional level and increasing its efficiency by joining international documents.

The issues of building expert capacity and developing the regulatory framework for cooperation were also discussed. The meeting included preparations for the international transport conference dedicated to the World Sustainable Transport Day in November in Ashgabat, and the implementation of Turkmenistan's initiatives in the field of sustainable transport, which were included in the country's Priority Positions at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
