At a meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan, Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov made a proposal to begin comprehensive preparations for the participation of the country's delegation in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29), which will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22.
To this end, it was proposed to hold a regular meeting of the Working Group established within the framework of the Interdepartmental Commission on Environmental Issues on July 22. Following the meeting, it seems advisable to develop new projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Turkmenistan and adapt to climate change.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Turkmenistan pays special attention to strategically important issues on the global agenda related to climate change issues. At COP-28, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward important initiatives in this direction. Proper work is currently underway to implement them.
R. Meredov also proposed, on the eve of the 19th Youth Conference (COY-19), to be held in Baku in November, to organize Youth forums on climate change in September in all velayats and Ashgabat.
In addition, a proposal was made to hold an international conference on food security in the context of climate Change in the Turkmen capital in November this year. This forum is planned to be organized under the auspices of the United Nations and jointly with its specialized agencies – the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Program and the Children's Fund (UNICEF).
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the submitted proposals and gave the Deputy Prime Minister relevant instructions, TDH reports.
