The 15th Meeting of the Heads of Railway Administrations and the 9th meeting of the Railway Committee for the Coordination of Transit Transport of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization were held in Tehran. Turkmenistan was represented at the events by Azat Atamuradov, Chairman of the Turkmendemirellary Agency, according to the MIC.
The Turkmen side spoke about the efforts of the country's leadership to integrate the national transport system into the global communications infrastructure and create large logistics centers to coordinate multimodal transportation in the region.
Special emphasis was placed on the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway, which is of strategic importance for the revival of the Great Silk Road. The great opportunities of this corridor for increasing cargo turnover and developing trade between the countries of Central Asia, the Caspian basin and neighboring regions were noted.
The Organization for Economic Cooperation has carried out analytical work to eliminate barriers on the KTI corridor. This will significantly increase its attractiveness and create opportunities for increasing exports to the countries of the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.
"Transit cargo transportation from Europe through the territory of Turkmenistan to the countries of the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf is three times shorter than through the Suez Canal," the IIC publication notes.
