On October 8, the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan was held in the National Tourist Zone "Awaza".

The meeting was attended by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia have convincingly demonstrated the viability, usefulness and high effectiveness of this format of political interaction. The meetings represent an open, friendly and constructive dialogue.

According to the general opinion of the participants in this format, such a mechanism makes it possible to respond in a timely manner to processes taking place in Central Asia and helps to build national priorities taking into account the interests of partners.

On the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and under the wise leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan advocates strengthening the effectiveness of this format.

Thus, Turkmenistan proposed convening an extraordinary Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in the National Tourist Zone "Awaza" on the platform of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in August of last year.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the meeting.

In his speech, the Hero-Arkadag noted that "as practice shows, the initiative to hold the Consultative Meetings has proved to be in the highest degree in demand and in tune with the spirit of partnership in resolving pressing tasks. And it can be said with confidence that today this is no longer just a regional format of political communication, but an undoubted factor of international significance."

It was during that meeting that Turkmenistan put forward the proposal that the Republic of Azerbaijan join the activities of the consultative meetings as a full member.

At the present Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, the sides considered issues related to the further strengthening of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation and exchanged views on the practical implementation of joint initiatives.

Following the negotiations, the Decision "On the Regulatory Documents of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan" and the Joint Statement following the results of the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan were adopted.
