Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov inaugurated the Mary–Turkmenabat section, the third phase of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway, in a ceremony Friday, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
The total length of the highway is 600 kilometers. The roadway is 34.5 meters wide and includes three lanes in each direction.
Service infrastructure along the route includes cafes, gas stations, parking areas and maintenance facilities. For safety, a protective fence has been installed to prevent wild and domestic animals from entering the roadway, and special underpasses have been built for their movement.
The Tejen–Mary section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway was opened and put into operation in April 2024.
