As planned, in 2023 Turkmenistan joined the Friends of Sustainable Urbanization program and the new urban development program of the United Nations Population Program. In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the issue of opening a representative office of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in Turkmenistan is one of the priorities for Turkmenistan at the 78th session of the organization.
Following the conversation, the Turkmen leader suggested that as a first step in this direction, a group of experts from the United Nations Population Programme would visit Turkmenistan to identify specific areas of cooperation and, as a result, develop a project document. This document will serve as a legal basis for cooperation.
During the interview, it was noted that Turkmenistan is successfully implementing state programs to ensure the system of inclusive life support and protection of the population. Also at the opening ceremony, it was said that the city of Arkadag was awarded a certificate from the United Nations Human Settlements Program "For efforts to implement the principles of inclusive, safe, stable and smart regions and communities."
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the high assessment of the work carried out in the field of urban development in Turkmenistan.
Stressing Turkmenistan's readiness for further cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the Turkmen leader made a number of proposals, including proposals to expand cooperation in the field of urban planning and legislation, to study modern legal methodologies and mechanisms. It is also proposed to cooperate in the implementation of comprehensive programs and strategies for the development of high-tech, environmentally friendly, disaster-resistant and comfortable cities, as well as to share best practices in cooperation between the public and private sectors in the field of construction and construction. urban infrastructure management.
It was said that Turkmenistan is ready to consider the recommendations of the United Nations Population Programme on these issues.
