Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Washington on a working visit to participate in the "Central Asia + USA" summit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. The Turkmen leader's plane landed at Andrews International Airport, where he was met by US officials and members of the official Turkmen delegation.

According to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, the visit took place as part of the implementation of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy, based on the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness, and constructive cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the United States were established in 1992. Since then, cooperation between the countries has expanded to encompass political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.

Interstate political dialogue is regular. Bilateral political consultations are held annually, serving as a platform for discussing priority partnership issues. The United States highly values Turkmenistan's neutral status, recognized three times by the UN, viewing it as a key factor in stability in Central Asia.

Relations between the states are complemented by multilateral cooperation in the "Central Asia + USA" format. Within working groups on economics, energy, and environmental protection, the parties are developing approaches to expanding regional partnership.

The “Turkmenistan–USA” Business Council plays an important role in trade and economic relations, serving as a mechanism for establishing contacts between the business communities of the two countries since 2008.

In recent years, cooperation in the humanitarian field has intensified. In 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in education was signed, laying the foundation for cultural and educational exchanges.
