Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its status as a reliable transit bridge between Asia and Europe. According to a rapid survey conducted by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in October–November 2024, the average time for transit cargo to cross Turkmenistan’s border is just 50 minutes — the shortest in the Central Asian region. For comparison, the average border crossing times are 2 hours 26 minutes in Kazakhstan, 1 hour 50 minutes in Tajikistan, 1 hour 28 minutes in Kyrgyzstan, and 1 hour 25 minutes in Uzbekistan. The data was reported by the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
This efficiency has been achieved through the coordinated efforts of Turkmenistan’s customs and border control agencies, enabled by the use of information systems, the implementation of green corridors, and the simplification of customs procedures.
The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan plays a key role in modernizing and expanding international transit corridors, aligning its control processes with international standards, the source noted.
