Chairman of the Khalk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan in Ashgabat, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The participants exchanged warm greetings and congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Oraz. Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan conveyed to the National Leader of the Turkmen people cordial greetings from Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi and Supreme Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed Tehran's interest in strengthening fruitful dialogue with Ashgabat.
The head of the Halk Maslahaty Turkmen welcomed the Iranian minister to the hospitable Turkmen land and conveyed his best wishes to the leadership of Iran, noting the common historical and cultural roots of the two peoples.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the constructive nature of bilateral cooperation based on the principles of good neighborliness, friendship and mutual respect, highly appreciating Iran's contribution to the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution "2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust" initiated by Turkmenistan.
Stressing that bilateral cultural ties are developing in accordance with the spirit of the times, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted the importance of large-scale celebrations on the occasion of the proclamation of the ancient city of Anau as the cultural capital of the Turkic world and the opening of the new Seyit Jemaletdin mosque in Anew.
As part of the discussion on the prospects for further development of interstate cooperation, Chairman Halk Maslahaty noted with satisfaction that Iran occupies an important place in Turkmenistan's foreign trade turnover. In this context, the parties expressed their intention to strengthen effective cooperation in such sectors as fuel and energy, transport and communications, construction, and agriculture. Special attention is planned to be paid to the activation of trade and economic relations, exhibitions and business forums.
Noting the importance of visits by government delegations of the two countries at various levels and the exchange of views on bilateral and multilateral relations, the National Leader of the Turkmen people reaffirmed his commitment to expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership with neighboring Iran.
As it was emphasized, humanitarian cooperation plays an important role in strengthening interstate dialogue, bringing peoples closer together, and enriching cultures. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the availability of wide opportunities for establishing close contacts in the fields of science, education, culture, art and sports.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people, speaking about the significance of the celebrations on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fraga, expressed confidence that representatives of the neighboring country will take an active part in them.
At the end of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran wished each other good health, longevity, great success in their work and expressed confidence in the further development of fruitful bilateral relations across their entire spectrum.
