On January 17, the opening ceremony of the International Year of Peace and Trust, organized by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, took place at the UN Headquarters in New York, in the Economic and Social Council Hall.

The event was attended by high-ranking representatives of the United Nations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The representative of Turkmenistan stressed the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust. This year, the country celebrates the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality status, which is enshrined in the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly adopted in 1995 and 2015.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca emphasized the central role of Turkmenistan in promoting a culture of peace, trust and dialogue at the global level, and on behalf of the UN Secretary-General expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for supporting UN efforts to strengthen stability and security at the regional and global levels.

During the presentations, the participants outlined their vision for the implementation of the tasks set out in the Concept of Turkmenistan's activities and priorities within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust. An exchange of views took place on the events for the current year.

In particular, it was noted that an International Forum of Peace and Trust is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat in December 2025, which will bring together participants from all over the world to consolidate efforts and develop concrete further steps to strengthen the global culture of peace.

The participants supported the roadmap based on the Concept of Turkmenistan's activities and priorities within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, which was presented during the event, and expressed their willingness to work closely together to strengthen trust-based interstate and international dialogue as a key element of maintaining peace, the source said.
